Rhapsody Spray Series by Carl Fudge

Rhapsody Spray 1

Rhapsody Spray 1 is the first in a series of screenprints by Carl Fudge. He uses a computer to rearrange different aspects of the image to distort it, but just enough so that the viewer can still recognize that the character is Chibi Moon from Sailor Moon. After he distorts the images, he prints and cuts out the multiple screens by hand to use them to create the whole Rhapsody series, which is just the same image of Chibi Moon, but in the different color variations that are shown below.

The reason I chose this collection was because it caught my eye. The abstractness was intriguing, but also still being able to figure out who it was felt like a small success. What I also find impressive about these particular art pieces is the fact that just by looking at it the viewer can tell that it took a lot of time to make. To make the image abstract is the first step, but then printing and having to cut out all the different stencils and screens by hand must've taken a lot of time and patience and all that effort is conveyed through the piece.
