United States Soldiers image by Lucas Jackson ABC
I appropriated these images because the photos I took from my experiences at the George Floyd protests were much too blurry or disoriented due to the (sometimes) chaotic atmosphere... The George Floyd murder and protests revealed an overabundance of issues that America has and continues to face; namely the issue of police and how the general establishement of policing has shown itself to be irresponsible of its power over citizens, especially black people. This photo represents the potential mindframe of police officers who confuse their duty as protectors and servers for being soldiers and killers. The main image is comprised of a protest in which the participators held up mirrors to police in hopes that they would think deeply about recent events and how they may have been contributors to the violence on American people. The reflection contains one soldier amid a group of police containing the crowd. While at a more rowdy protest in Minneapolis I remember observing officers who seemed to be enjoying the discontent and anger of the massive group while taunting and jeering us. It was an amazing juxtaposition of "protect and serve" to "us .vs. them."
