History

Ray came from a family that owned a bar in Independence, WI. He met Betty after World War I, and together they moved to Eau Claire, WI. They opened Ray's Place in 1949, and it bacem a hometown favorite, with its hot beefs, homemade horsradish mustard, and spanish stew.

Together they had eight children, Trudy, Charlie, Ed, Jeff, Sue, Stan, Cindy, and Dave. The whole family lived in the apartment above the bar, including their dog pogo. The bar became a family affair. The kids grew up helping in the kitchen, cleaning, and bartending.

In 1989, Dave, the youngest, and his finance Sandy purchased the bar, including all of the recipes. They moved above the bar, and raised two kids, Alex and Natalie.

The Bar continues to be a hometown favorite because the recipes haven't changed over the year. the inside may have been updated, but is still serves the sandwiches the same was as they did in 1949, keeping the tradition alive.
